    career choice

You have to make a career choice now? In 10th grade? There is a 99% chance that if you choose something now you will not be doing it as a career. Most people change their major at least once and quite a few do not end up in a career related to their chosen college major. Not to mention the typical college graduate changes careers 2-3 times! So..sure pick something out…but i am not sure if i see the point right now. just get good grades and figure out some interests.

It is much more important in life to keep your options opened than it is to restrict your future decisions based on whatever you answer to whoever is asking you this question.

I suggest that you tell whoever is asking you to choose a career now whatever they want to hear, and then forget all about it.

it is sad if your parents are forcing you to choose when you are only a sophomore! that’s crazy. i’m a senior in high school and i still am not sure what i’m going to be- i’m sure it will change many times throughout college and even afterward.

if you don’t like biology definitely do not choose to go to medical school and be a doctor! you might be fulfilling your dad’s wishes, but you will be miserable on the job.

if you like math and computers, there is a high chance you would like engineering. research it and find out what engineering is really about and what the job opportunities are. your mom could be right.

but really, when you DO make the choice (since it is senseless now…your interests will most likely change by the time you start a career- in almost 10 years!) make sure to make the choice by listening to YOURSELF. how would you like to wake up every morning to go to a job you hate, even if you made good money? in any job you are interested in there are opportunities to make good money. money isn’t everything though, it surely isn’t. finding something to be passionate about while getting paid is what i think everyone should call their “job”

You got lots of good advice so far but mostly discouraging you from choosing a career in 10th grade. While they are correct that you needn’t feel a lot of pressure to decide yet, you sound like a level headed student who wants to find direction early on. I say, the sooner you zero in on your target career path, the better off you will be. Engineering sounds like a good fit. Tell your dad that there are health care engineers, too. they design everything from robotic surgical equipment to MRI machines to Optometric exam equipment, etc. etc. You are smart to be putting a high priority on choosing a career at an age when many kids are only focused on pop music and texting friends. You are destined to go a long way. Don’t be dissuaded by the indecisiveness of others.
