New Grad

Guest post by Gerard Mcdaniel

When I graduated from NYU last month, I had big plans for myself. I had plans to get an apartment in the city and take a few months off before I started working. I wanted to see some musicals on Broadway, go ice skating at Rockefeller Center, and do some shopping on 5th Avenue. However, I had not considered the fact that when I graduated, I would have no money to fund my city adventures. So instead, I decided to be realistic and get an apartment right outside of the city. My roommate from college agreed to live with me and we were able to get all the furniture we needed from family members. I got a job teaching middle school science and when I was at new teacher orientation, I met a girl who was talking about how she was desperately trying to save money. She said that she found a way to save money on energy at New York energy rates. I had not thought about trying to save on utilities, but I think I will try looking at this site. If I save enough money, maybe I’ll someday have the chance to live out my dream in the big city.
