I began in print shops. Also check out sign shops, department stores need window dressers and ads created, newspapers, many larger companies need someone on staff for graphic design in addition to other duties like office work. Freelance can be very nice if you can sell yourself and understand how your work will be used and if you clearly understand the processes involved in reproducing your work. If you don’t, get an entry level job in a business that does the reproduction. You will learn a lot, and it will be more complete than anything you can pick up in school. And you will get paid for it!
