Good question Scott.
Let me share an awesome resource that you can go to for answers to everyone of these questions. It is a website supported by the Department of Labor known as ONet.
Bookmark this site for future career research on other careers.
Use the “Find Occupation” feature and enter “Police Officer”.
1. Look at all the tasks involved and the skills you need.
2. Look at related occupations that are in the security sector
3. Note that many of these jobs are very much in demand and their will be future high demand as well.
4. Once you select a career and move through all the details, move to the bottom and select your state.
5. State information on salaries and training required will be a big help.
In terms of the specifics of a K-9 cop, consider doing an “Informational Interview”. Call up your local police facility, ask to speak to a K-9 Officer and ask if you can come in or have a conversation with him/her to learn more.

Create a video blog
You don’t need a degree to apply to the Police Force. The minimum age for applicants in UK is 18 1/2 and good A-Level results are all that is required in the academic sense. Also G.C.S.E in Maths & English is a must.
The one drawback at the moment is that not many forces are recruiting so if you set your heart on applying make sure you have a back-up option.

Go to your local community college and get an A.A. in Criminal Justice; then apply at your local or state police departments.
